The ASCENT programme has been funded by London Councils to host three special events each year to address overarching issues in the VAWG sector in London. The events are part of the Strengthening Local & Pan-London VAWG services through sharing, learning and collaboration.

Who is this event for?

  • Women voluntary sector organisations
  • Services that address the needs of those at risk of or suffering from VAWG
  • Voluntary and community sector organisations
  • Statutory sector services
  • Commissioners of VAWG services
  • Partner organisations from related areas of delivery especially those that address women’s health needs, homelessness and housing.

The objective of this event is to provide a platform to talk, learn and discuss about three of the issues that VAWG organisations in London needs to be aware of in this day and age. The aims are to:

  • Increase participants understanding of intersectionality and its impact on the design and delivery of services
  • Openly discuss the potential changes in legislation that Brexit may bring in relation to VAWG.
  • Offer participants the opportunity to contribute to the RESPECT Accreditation Standards Review.

The day will be divided in three main areas:

  • Presentation and discussion on Intersectionality led by Imkaan
  • Seminar on Brexit and its impact on legislation related to VAWG led by Rights of Women
  • Brief presentation and round table discussions of key areas of development for the RESPECT Accreditation standard.

ASCENT partners will host a networking lunch for participants.

The ASCENT programme has been funded by London Councils to host three special events each year to address overarching issues in the VAWG sector in London. The events are part of the Strengthening Local & Pan-London VAWG services through sharing, learning and collaboration. The events will help to bring together all London Borough based VAWG leads responsible for the local provision and commissioning of VAWG services and ASCENT as the first Pan-London response to Violence against Women and Girls in London.

 

Who is this event for?

  • London VAWG consortium partner organisations
  • All 33 Borough VAWG leads
  • MOPAC officers London Councils policy and grant officers
  • Other sectors lead partern e.g. Homelessness, health, and housing

ASCENT partners will host a networking lunch for participants.

The event aims to:

  • Increase all participants understanding of ASCENT, the services that it provides, its structure, accessibility and referral pathways.
  • Increase understanding of how services at borough level and ASCENT could work better together to create a stronger net of support for women and girls in London.
  • Improve communication between VAWG leads and ASCENT strands.
  • Share knowledge, create informal discussions and future action plans to keep the channels of communication open.

The event will begin with an introduction outlining the ASCENT programme, the London VAWG Consortium and its membership. Following this participant s, will be invited to take part in a facilitated discussion group.
There will be six discussion groups representing each strand of the ASCENT programme:

• Prevention                                       • Domestic & Sexual Violence Help lines

• Advice and Counselling                   • Women against Harmful Practices

• Specialist Refuge                            • Support Services to Organisations.

A minute taker will record the discussions from each group. Borough VAWG leads will be invited to participate in a discussion for around 20 minutes before being directed to move on to the next group. By moving between groups we wish to ensure that participants are able to talk with representatives from each of the ASCENT strands. At the end of the session there will be a plenary to discuss how best to improve ASCENT and delivery of VAWG services at local level.
