The Ascent project

Ascent is a project undertaken of the London VAWG Consortium, delivering a range of services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence funded by London Councils.

Ascent improves service provision for those affected by sexual and domestic violence in London through the provision of front-line services as well as support to voluntary and statutory organisations.

23 organisations work on the Ascent project across six strands/themes. The strands are:

Prevention

The Prevention Strand provides an innovative, holistic response to gender based violence amongst young people, covering a range of VAWG themes through specialist arts and drama workshops.

This strand consists of 9 partner organisations and is led by Tender Education and Arts. Find out more about what the Prevention strand does here.

Domestic and Sexual Violence Helplines

This project delivers specialist, integrated helpline services for all survivors of domestic and sexual violence throughout London providing immediate practical and emotional support as well as signposting to other support services.

This strand consists of 5 partner organisations and is led by Women’s Aid. Find out more information about this strand here.

Advice and Counselling

The Advice and Counselling strand provides specialist and generic counselling and advice services to women and girls affected by gender-based violence.

This strand consists of 14 partners and is led by Solace Women’s Aid. Find out more about this strand here.

Specialist Refuge

This innovative project provides pan-London, specialist emergency accommodation and support services for vulnerable women presenting with additional needs such as mental health, problematic substance use, sexual exploitation, trafficking and No Recourse to Public Funds.

Ending Harmful Practices

The Ending Harmful Practices project improves service provision for those affected by sexual and domestic violence, specifically, female genital mutilation (FGM), honour based violence (HBV), forced marriage (FM) and other harmful practices in London through the provision of high quality front-line services as well as support services to voluntary and statutory organisations.

This strand consists of 9 organisations and is led by Asian Women’s Resource Centre. Find out more about this strand here.

Support Services to Organisations

This second tier support project aims to address the long term sustainability needs of organisations providing services to those affected by sexual and domestic violence.
