Jewish Women’s Aid
Jewish Women’s Aid is the only UK charity working providing a culturally specific service for Jewish women and their children affected by domestic violence. The organisation has two principal aims:
- to provide confidential, accessible, empowering and culturally sensitive advocacy and support for Jewish women and children affected by domestic violence.
- through education, training and awareness raising, to ensure that all sectors of the Jewish community recognise and speak out against domestic violence.
JWA runs six core services: a freephone national helpline, a refuge (the only Shabbat and kosher observant refuge in Europe), a community advocacy and support service, a children’s worker, free counselling (face to face or via telephone) and education, training and awareness raising programmes.
Jewish Women’s Aid’s role within the consortium
JWA is a member of the Advice and Counselling strand. It provides specialist support and counselling to Jewish women affected by domestic violence all over London, with a particular focus on Barnet, Camden, Hackney, Haringey and Redbridge. This also includes DV awareness, counselling and confidence-building groups.
